In Praise of Caesar Salad, Filet Mignon, Sides and Cheescake only $23.95

My husband and I have a standing date for lunch at the Palm Restaurant on Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood, California.  At $24.95 for 4 courses we can’t afford not to.

We make reservations on www.opentable.com for which we get credits toward future meals at several restaurants.

Because we’re regulars, the Palm’s hostess and general manager seat us at our favorite table, without us having to ask.  It’s table #7 by the wall if you must know.

The wall is covered with photo renderings  of celebrities and local notables.

The Blue Plate Special has been around since the recession began. It includes choice or soup or salad, even the Caesar, which this foodie feels is the best in town–perfectly dressed with anchovies, crispy Romaine, delicious.

Then you have a choice of salmon, fish of the day, steak salad or two tiny filet mignons that are so tender you don’t need the steak knife they provide at all. You also can have a vegetable (I chose asparagus recently) or fries and onion rings (Richard got that and of course we shared).

It doesn’t stop here, you can also have the Palms’ world-famous cheesecake (highly recommended and what we always order) or the Key lime pie (also good, but the former’s out of this world, as good as it gets, but so rich we usually take it home and make three servings out each slice).

In fact this morning I made a fritata from my leftover filet mignon and asparagus and last night we both had slices from the cheese cake we took home.

You really can’t beat $23.95 for food that well prepared. I hope it never ends. Of course our tab goes a lot higher since we always order wine for the occasion, usually a good one, too.

We ordered Rodney Strong by the glass.

The menu.
