Tasting Some Mighty Fine Silverado Wine Part 1

The Diva’s making her way through a case of Silverado 2006 releases.

Since we were having filet mignons last night it was only fitting to pop open a Merlot. Which was a good choice.

A little young, yet, but it improved as it breathed, the medium bodied wine held true to the vintner’s tasting notes of  cedar, tobacco, earth, cinnamon stick and black pepper spice with baked berry compote and a hint of Worcestershire.

The winemaker’s notes: “the grapes were harvested at an average brix of 24.5 and the wine was drained and pressed off the skins after 17 days.” It contains 96% merlot and 4% cabearnet sauvignon.

The Silverado Vineyards 2006 Merlot Napa Valley comes 49% from the Mt. George Vineyard and 32% from Stag’s Leap District Vineyard, and costs $32.
