Sprinkles Sweetens the Cupcake With Caramel Sensation

First I’ll confess I am not a cupcake fan.  OMG you might respond. Sorry, just not my thing. But everytime I pass by Sprinkles in Beverly Hill and see the long line that winds down and around Little Santa Monica Blvd., I  think I must be strange.

However the Dining Diva does love caramel so maybe I’ll have to sample this latest concoction by one of the most successful cupcakes creators of all times:–but I only have a few days.

The  New Caramel Sensation with Just a Sprinkle of Salt  is only available from now through May 23.

My dear friend and fellow margarita-drinker, Faith sent me the release on the sweet, little cakey thing:

The French-inspired, flavored cupcake: the Salty Caramel. Although caramel itself originated in the United States, the idea of a salted caramel arose in Brittany, France, famous for its delicate fleur de sel sea salt crystals, and was then popularized in the 1990s by daring Parisian pastry chef, Pierre Hermé, who lent the sweet and savory combination to his famed macaron cookies.

This timeless pairing of sweet and salty is whipped, baked and frosted into Sprinkles’ modern take on the old classic. Nelson is no stranger to French food philosophy. Her French-American great grandmother, Margaret Craig—who owned three successful Bay Area restaurants throughout the 1920s and 30s —was an inspiration for the cupcake boutique: teaching her that dessert was better served as daily indulgence instead of merely a special occasion offering.

The introduction of the Salty Caramel cupcake not only indicates Nelson’s continued loyalty to her French roots, but also ensures that the salty and the sweet, the old and the new need not be isolated from one another, but rather enjoyed together all in one bite. Sprinkles’ buttery Salty Caramel Cupcakes are $3.25 per piece, or $36.00 per dozen, and are available through May 23rd at all of the Sprinkles stores. Sprinkles Cupcakes are a deliciously sophisticated update on an American classic. Baked fresh in small batches throughout the day, Sprinkles Cupcakes are handcrafted from the finest ingredients and contain no preservatives, trans fats or artificial flavors. Since opening as the nation’s first cupcake bakery, Sprinkles has inspired long lines of devoted Hollywood stars and serious epicureans for its freshly baked treats.
