The Dining Diva is as fussy about coffee as she is food, actually even more so.
There’s nothing like a good, strong cup of joe to jump start your morning mojo. It all amounts to a hill of really freshly roasted bean.
The coffee should kiss-ass, with a rich, flavorful and strong bite.
Afterall the Dining Diva, being of Italian heritage, grew up on espresso. She and her mom used to break for espresso like Brits at tea time. So coffee evokes warm memories of those days.
Okay so what are the Dining Diva’s favorite coffee beans (we grind beans fresh every morning, it’s the only way to make a good cup of coffee). I also wash the pot out with white wine vinegar regularly.
For starters, CostCo’s Jose’s French Roast ,(not always available) was our Numero Uno until we tasted Seattle’s Best. I’ve bought it before from Ralph’s or Vons, but it didn’t taste as good as the organic Whole Bean French Roast sent by the company. The description on the package reads: “dark, smooth and smoky, a bold, rich satisfying blend”–and it’s true. So that made number 2 (no pun intended). ($12.99 fir 12 oz bag).
Number 3: Seattle’s Best Ground Blend (they sent it already ground), although the package said “bright flavor, light roast,” it proved deep, rich and strong. Loved it.
Number 4: CostCo’s Kirkland Papua New Guinea,
a 3 pound bag of beans for just $13.89, that makes a heady, aromatic, clean, fresh brew.
Tied with Kirkland’s Jose in 5th place: in 5th Place: Trader’s Joe’s:
good, strong, reliable, Ultra Dark French Roast (about $8) gets the job done.
Don’t take the Dining Diva wrong. She wouldn’t toss out a cup of Starbucks, Lily, Peet or City Bean–but she just likes what she likes best. They don’t call her the Diva for nothing.
